Classic vs Forever items: how to check provenance

Understand item evidence levels before buying or equipping.

Editorial review: 10 October 2026

Does an item database entry prove availability?

No. ForEveroth separates historical Classic references, Forever client data and community-reported beta drops. A datamined entry may not be obtainable in game.

Where can you check an item's source?

Use the item catalogue for search and filters, BiS by level for class and level restrictions, and Vendors for sale-by-sale provenance. None of these is guaranteed live stock or loot.

What changes at level 30?

The beta cap makes items with higher required levels unusable even when listed in the files. Classic level-60 pre-raid lists remain future references.

Which evidence should I check before using an item in a build?

There are three different questions: does the item have a database entry, has it been reported in the Forever beta, and can your class and current level actually equip it? These are not equivalent. The item catalogue helps check slot and armor restrictions; BiS by level separates historical Classic reference items from beta-reported drops, while Vendors highlights whether a sale is a Classic or Forever reference.

Because the beta is capped at level 30, avoid treating future level-60 items as practical current recommendations. Use the provenance labels and item requirement fields rather than assuming all Classic gear remains obtainable.
